Yihsin Cindy Liu

Yi-Hsin Cindy Liu has been the principal horn with the National Symphony Orchestra in Taiwan since September 2005.

She graduated from the University of Auckland with Piano Major at the age of Twenty. In 1998, she was accepted with scholarship to study with the associate principal horn of the New York Philharmonic, Jerome Ashby at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, USA. Subsequently, she continued her studies with the former second horn of Philadelphia Orchestra, Mr. Randy Gardner at the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati and was awarded with the Doctoral of Musical Arts degree in June 2005. While she was in the US, she was invited to participate in the Aspen and Kent/Blossom Music Festival and worked with major conductors.

In 2011, She was invited to be the principal horn with the Cross-straits Exchange Orchestra. In 2013, She performed the Strauss horn concerto no. 1 with the National Symphony Orchestra with conductor Gunther Herbig. Besides her classical music achievement, Cindy can also be heard in movie soundtracks such as “A Sun” which won the Golden Horse Award in 2019.
