Expectation of Conduct Policy

The International Women’s Brass Conference provides this Expectation of Conduct policy to elevate the standards and expectations of human relations, and to create transparency for everyone involved.

Conference Expectation of Conduct:

1. Treat everyone with respect. The event is intended to be a great experience for everyone involved. Participate while acknowledging that everyone deserves to be here – and all participants have the right to enjoy their experience without fear of harassment, discrimination, or condescension, whether blatant or via micro-aggressions.
2. Speak up if you see or hear something that appears to be harassment in some form.
3. Harassment of any kind will not be tolerated of conference participants in any form.
4. Harassment can take many forms. It includes, but is not limited to: words, signs, jokes, pranks, intimidation, physical contact, or violence. This includes verbal language that reinforces social structures of domination related to gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disabilities, physical appearance, body size, ethnicity, nationality, race, age, religion, or other protected category; sexual imagery in public spaces; deliberate intimidation; stalking; following; harassing photography or recording; sustained disruption of talks or other events; offensive verbal language; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention. Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. It is not the intent of the behavior by the offender that determines if harassment has occurred but whether the behavior is welcome by the receiver. 

Responsibility:

1. Harassment is not tolerated, and you are empowered to politely engage when you or others are disrespected. The person making you feel uncomfortable may not be aware of what they are doing, and politely bringing their behavior to their attention is encouraged. If a participant engages in harassing or uncomfortable behavior, the event organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning, expelling the offender from the event and/or terminating their membership of the festival / organization. If you are being harassed or feel concerns, please contact a member of the event staff immediately.

1. Exhibiting partners, sponsors or vendor booths, or similar parties are also subject to this policy. 

Reporting Procedure:

Participants or employees witnessing or receiving any of the behavior listed above should immediately report the incident by using our digital form, which can be found at conference.myiwbc.org/report
